Gold Credit Cards
Gold Credit Cards are one of the premium card types on offer in Australia.
They aim to attract and reward high earners for the spending power they bring to the table. For the card holder there is a whole swathe of possible benefits quite apart from the swish gold card they are able to produce to impress the date with when paying the restaurant bill!
Applying for a Gold Credit Card
Sometimes the credit providers approach existing customers with the offer of a gold credit card for high earners and regular spenders.
They will court you for your signature and invite you to join with pre-approval. You will probably receive offers from the bank that you hold accounts with but it's worth shopping around, as always.
If you have to apply yourself then there are usually fairly strict criteria that the issuer will expect you to meet such as a minimum income and a good credit rating.
Benefits of Gold Credit Cards
If you qualify for a gold card you may get anything from a high credit limit, which is fairly standard, to perks like free international travel insurance, a concierge service, access to executive airport lounges, a warranty extension programme, free purchase protection and identity theft protection.
You might also find that the interest rates on these cards are a little lower because the card-holder represents a low risk to the bank.
Potential Downsides of Gold Credit Cards
You will almost always pay annual fees on Gold Credit Cards and they may be high - $250 plus is not uncommon.
This may be fine if you are using the perks and rewards you get with your card, but can seem expensive if you don't.
